SR 99 / Pelandale Avenue Interchange Reconstruction Project Update: March 2016

March 7, 2016

New Modesto SignConstruction of the SR 99 / Pelandale Avenue Interchange Reconstruction Project is in full swing! The City of Modesto started work on the interchange in spring 2014 and the project is on track for completion in early 2017. The project includes a new overcrossing bridge with new on and off ramps to relieve traffic congestion, improve traffic operations, and enhance safety in the area.

The project also provides a new gateway into the City with a “Welcome to Modesto” sign to greet visitors at the City’s northern entrance. The most notable component of the project – the new Pelandale Avenue overcrossing bridge – will soon be completed. If you have driven on the bridge, you may have noticed the decorative features, lighting, and pedestrian walkway.

Red CraneWhile crews have been working on a large amount of less visible underground improvements over the winter months, prepare to see more activity this spring as the next phase of construction begins. The existing southbound SR 99 Pelandale Ave. off ramp will be temporarily closed for approximately three weeks while crews work on completing a new southbound off ramp. During this time, detour signage will direct traffic to utilize the southbound SR 99 Kiernan Avenue off ramp and southbound Salida Boulevard to eastbound Pelandale Avenue. Once the southbound SR 99 Pelandale Avenue off ramp improvements are completed, traffic will then begin to utilize the new southbound SR 99 Pelandale Ave. off ramp. Crews will then shift to work on the new southbound SR 99 Pelandale on ramp.

Also, the new northbound SR 99 Sisk Road off ramp is currently under construction and has an anticipated date of opening in mid-April. In addition, later this summer look for an update on the opening of the Salida Blvd./Murphy Road/Dakota Ave./UPRR Crossing.

PillarsThe City understands that construction can be inconvenient, and we want to thank the residents and businesses for their patience as we work to complete this project on time and within budget.

Stay tuned for more updates, as the project continues to move forward. Information is always available on the project website where traffic updates on the home page are updated weekly. If you have any questions, please visit us here.
